Americans love avocados.

As 2025 comes to a close, the total avocado volume in the U.S. is expected to exceed 3 billion pounds. That’s an all-time high, as well as a 4% increase over last year’s total.

This is good news for California-based growers. North America is the world’s largest market for avocados, but the country still relies on imports from Mexico to satisfy domestic demand. Only 10% of avocados consumed in the U.S. are grown here in California. That means there’s an opportunity — especially in counties like San Diego, Ventura, Santa Barbara, Riverside, and San Luis Obispo, where most of the state’s crop is grown — to contribute to California’s avocado harvest, which is estimated to reach a five-year high of 375 million pounds this year.

Healthy avocado yields depend on a number of factors, including rainfall, summertime temperatures, wind, and the presence of domestic pests like avocado thrips, Persea mites, and caterpillars. To ensure that your avocado trees receive the water they need — even during particularly dry seasons — give our irrigation department a call. We can talk to you about your growing operation’s unique needs, then design an irrigation system that will keep your orchards accurately watered.
